Heard on the coconut wireless that Peter Thomson, a true son of Fiji and former Permanent Secretary to Ratu Penaia Ganilau, has been earmarked to become our new Ambassador to the UN. This news is received with mixed emotions. On the positive side, at least Peter is a ‘good-un’ and may be able to be a force for good within the illegal regime. On the negative side (and there are a lot of negatives), anything that can be seen to legitimise the illegal regime is a living tragedy.
Only Peter himself, author of ‘Kava in the blood’, knows in his own mind his reasons for entertaining the idea. I like to assume it’s because, like the rest of us, he wants to see Fiji back on its own feet.
Meanwhile, Fiji’s diplomatic freeze is slowing thawing. Vore’s strategy has always been to wait it out, and force the international community to accept his illegal regime. What can be done?
For a start, We The People must never forget these names :
We must never forget the 1997 Constitution and the freedoms it upheld. We must never forget that Human Rights are inalienable rights.
The pig cannot avoid justice forever. Tabu soro.
God bless Fiji
